SafeZone

SafeZone is our free safety app that connects you directly to campus security and support – whenever you need it.  

With SafeZone you can: 

  • Get help quickly if you feel unsafe or unwell 
  • Call for emergency help or first aid at the tap of a button 
  • Receive alerts about incidents on campus 
  • Access wellbeing support when you need it 
  • Check in when you’re studying late or on campus alone
     

Where it works 

SafeZone works across Manchester campuses, including: 

  • The University of Manchester
  • Manchester Met
  • University of Salford
  • Fallowfield and Victoria Park 

 

  How it works

  • Tap a button in the app to request help
  • Your location is only shared when you ask for help or check in
  • Security can respond quickly using your location. If you are not on The University of Manchester campus, SafeZone will contact the local emergency services of campus support where you are.  

 

Download it 

Search ‘SafeZone’ in the App Store or Google Play and sign in with your University email. 

Your privacy 

  • You are not tracked all the time
  • Your location is only shared if you ask for help or check in
  • This helps security respond quickly when you need them 

 

The University has a contract with CriticalArc which states that they act as the University’s Data Processor. This means that the University is the Data Controller for the personal data collected and stored via the SafeZone app and it remains legally responsible for the uses it makes of this data. The legal basis for the processing of your personal data in the SafeZone app is that the processing is necessary for the purposes of the University’s legitimate interests. These interests relate to the fact that we have a duty of care to students and staff, and the collection of personal data in the SafeZone app for general safety purposes is one way we can achieve this. You choose whether or not to download the app and to use the location services.
