Cycle registration and subsidised lock scheme

To help keep your bike safe on campus, we offer a cycle registration and subsidised lock scheme.

You must register your bike to qualify for a discounted Gold Standard D-lock (£15) (one per person).

Follow the steps below to register your bike and collect your lock.

1. Register your bike

Complete the Bike Registration Form at least 24 hours before attending a registration event (see below).

If you do not attend within 4 weeks, you’ll need to submit the form again.

2. Purchase your lock

Buy your lock online through the University of Manchester Store at least 24 hours before your chosen event.

3. Attend a registration event

At the event, we will:

  • Add a tamper-proof label with a unique serial number to your bike
  • Record your details securely on the University database
  • Add your bike to the BikeRegister database (used by police to recover stolen bikes)

This makes it easier to trace and return your bike if it is lost or stolen.

4. Collect your lock

You will receive your lock at the registration event once we’ve registered your bike.

Before you attend a registration event

    Make sure you:

    • have completed the registration form
    • have bought your lock
    • bring your bike with you

If any of these steps are missed, we will not be able to register your bike or provide your lock.

    You must also:

    • collect your lock in person at a registration event
    • attend an event within 3 months of purchase

    Upcoming bike registration events

There are no events over summer. If you still need to register your bike, email the Crime Reduction Advisor to arrange an appointment.
