Visas and Applications

If you are not a British or Irish national and you wish to study in the UK then you must hold valid immigration permission (a visa) that allows you to study in the UK.

EU/EEA nationals who have not already applied for or obtained status under the EU Settlement Scheme who wish to study for more than 6 months will need to apply for a Student visa.

Overseas applicants must ensure their Student visa has been issued to them before travelling to the UK to avoid entering the UK as a visitor. Visitor visa status cannot be used to study any programme longer than 6 months and you also cannot switch to the Student route if you enter the country as a non-visa national/Electronic Visa Waiver holder or with a Standard Visitor visa.

If you are not sure what visa type you should apply for please see the section 'What visa do I need?‘ for more information before continuing.

If you already have a visa for the UK then you must check whether your existing permission permits study. You must read the section 'Other visa types' and contact us directly if the visa you have is not listed. You must do this before your course start date as you will not be permitted to start your course without a valid visa that permits study at Manchester.

Please note you are not permitted to study with a Graduate visa, so you must obtain a Student or other type of visa that permits study before you start your course.
