Deposits and early payments

Tuition fee deposits

International Students undertaking a one-year taught masters degree are required to pay a non-refundable tuition fee deposit of £1,000 before an electronic Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) can be issued. A CAS is an essential document for students applying for a student visa under Tier 4 of the Points Based System (PBS). The deposit payment is deducted from the total cost of your tuition fees.

It is possible to pay more than £1,000; up to a maximum of the total tuition fee due for the year. The total amount paid will be displayed when you register and will be deducted from the tuition fee due.

If your tuition fees will be fully funded by a third party sponsor you are exempt from paying a deposit - however, you must provide documentary evidence of the sponsorship.  You do not have to pay the deposit if you have US student loan funding, or if you are attending an English language pre-sessional course at The University of Manchester.

Are these deposits refundable?

Deposits are non-refundable except in cases where a Tier 4 Student visa has been refused. In such circumstances you must email a scanned copy of the Entry Clearance refusal letter, along with your full name and student ID number to the Student Payments and Registration Team at: tuitionfees@manchester.ac.uk

Early tuition fee payments

Paying tuition fees, either yourself or on behalf of someone else, is easy and straightforward. We encourage payment in advance of you arriving at the University at the start of your studies to avoid unnecessary delays or problems transferring funds - especially for overseas payers.

You can make a full or partial payment towards your tuition fees in advance of registration. This facility is available to any non-MBA applicant who has firmly accepted an Unconditional Offer for an academic course at the University (excluding pre-sessional English courses).

We offer a number of online payment methods and we support all major card schemes including Visa, MasterCard and American Express.

The quickest and easiest way to pay your deposit is online using a credit or debit card. You will receive an email asking you to complete IT Signup. Once you have done this, log into the early payments app in My Manchester below and follow the instructions.
