Step 3: Apply for a replacement BRP card

Now you have reported the loss or theft of your Biometric Residence Permit (BRP)card to the Home Office and the Police you need to apply for a replacement BRP card within three months otherwise you could be issued with a civil penalty. In order to obtain a replacement BRP card, you must apply online. Before starting to fill out the form, we strongly recommend you read the information on the UKVI website.

When you pay for your application online you will need to upload your documents to UKVI’s system and book an appointment at a UKVCAS (UK Visas and Citizenship Application Services) centre to enrol your biometrics.

New biometric appointments are released at 12am each night so if you are having difficulties booking an appointment you should log into the UKVI system at 12am or widen your search and be willing to travel to a non-core centre to attend a biometric appointment. Appointments are managed by an external company called Sopra Steria so we cannot help you to book an appointment.

Please note that although you will be able to retain your passport while your application is being processed you must not travel outside of the UK during this time otherwise your application will be cancelled automatically.

The nearest UKVCAS Centre is at Faulkner Street, Saint James Tower, Manchester M1 4DZ. View on Google Maps

There is information about the visa application process on the UKVI website and on the UKVCAS website

PLEASE NOTE VISA PRIORITY SERVICES ARE CURRENTLY SUSPENDED SO ONLY THE STANDARD SERVICE IS AVAILABLE AT PRESENT

You will have to pay a fee for your replacement BRP card. The fee will depend on whether you are applying through the standard or super priority service;

(a)   The cost of the standard service is £38.20 and the cost of the super priority service is £875.20 (if available)

(b)   The processing time for the standard service is 6 - 8 weeks.

The application form is straight forward so you can apply yourself but you will need to email us a scan of both sides of your new BRP card to visa@manchester.ac.uk when you receive it.

It can take 8 weeks for your replacement BRP card application to be processed through the standard service. During that time, it is vital that you do not allow your visa to expire – this remains your responsibility. If your visa is going to expire whilst you’re waiting for your replacement card then you should make a new Student visa application and include a covering letter to explain why you cannot provide your Passport/BRP within your application. You should seek advice from us in this instance.

YOU SHOULD NOT BOOK ANY TRAVEL UNTIL YOU HAVE YOUR NEW BRP CARD. Doing so is entirely at your own risk. We strongly recommend waiting until you have received your replacement BRP card safely. If you leave the UK while your replacement BRP card application is pending your application will be withdrawn automatically when you leave the UK.

You should receive your new BRP card within 7 - 10 days of receiving the decision letter. If you have not received your BRP card contact UKVI
