The UOM Parents, Carers, and Guardians Network (PCG Network) at the University of Manchester is a vibrant and inclusive community dedicated to supporting staff and students who balance parenting and caregiving responsibilities alongside their academic and professional commitments.
As part of our mission, the PCG Network aims to create a supportive environment that acknowledges the unique challenges faced by parents, carers, and guardians, fostering a culture of inclusivity, collaboration, and mutual support. Through our initiatives, we strive to ensure that the University becomes an institution of choice for individuals with caregiving responsibilities.
Our events, such as the Family Science Fun Day, highlight the importance of integrating family and university life by showing children innovative learning opportunities while fostering a sense of belonging among parents and guardians. Similarly, our Christmas Extravaganza celebrates the festive spirit and strengthens community bonds through shared activities, inclusive celebrations, and recognition of the diverse needs of families. We host events that offer opportunities for families to connect, learn, and have fun together.
We actively work to address issues such as flexible working, childcare facilities, and family-friendly accommodations, ensuring these needs are represented in university policies and practices.
Through workshops, focus groups, and discussions, we provide a platform for parents and carers to share their experiences, find support, and connect with others navigating similar challenges.
Our Network offers guidance, resources, and practical support, including pathways to key information like family-friendly university policies and financial assistance for caregivers.
The PCG Network’s initiatives include creative and educational workshops, collaborative discussions, and mentorship opportunities that not only inspire the next generation but also empower parents and carers in their dual roles.
It is committed to ongoing growth and collaboration, championing progress through initiatives like the Future Families Project under the Athena Swan Silver Action Plan. This project is central to our vision of a more equitable university environment that values and supports all caregivers.
We welcome you to join the Parents, Carers, and Guardians Network—a community that understands, supports, and celebrates the dual roles of parenting and caregiving within the university setting. Together, we can continue to build a brighter, more inclusive future for all families.
