Evidence Needed for Student Right to Study

This applies if you have:

• a Student eVisa;
• Skilled Worker permission;
• Dependant permission;
• Settled or Pre-Settled Status;
• another form of digital immigration permission that allows you to study (excludes Graduate visas)

You'll need to provide:

• Passport
• An 'S' share code generated from Gov.UK View and Prove
• Evidence of the date you entered the UK such as your e-ticket or boarding pass (if your immigration permission was granted inside the UK, you must tell us)

You'll also need to follow these instructions to generate your share code:

• Go to the Gov.uk webpage and click Start Now
• Select the document used when making your visa application
• Enter your document reference number
• Enter your date of birth
• Select how you would like to receive a security code (this will be contact details you provided when making your application).
• Enter the security code sent to you and you will be able to login
• This page will show your immigration status and provide other information
• Select Prove your Status, just below your details.
• Tick 'Something Else' and Select 'Preview what the checker will see'
• Click continue to generate a Share Code, this will be a combination of letters and numbers, make sure to copy or screen shot this code.

What happens next

We'll use your share code to verify your immigration status with UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI).

Once we've completed our checks, we'll email you to confirm that your Student Right to Study Check has been completed or let you know if we need any additional information.

If you are studying a course of less than 6 months' duration on a Student visa (e.g. pre-sessional English Language student), you must e-mail a scan of the following to studentRTS@manchester.ac.uk with the subject line 'Right to Study check' and your student ID number:

• The biometric page of your passport (this is the page with your personal information and photo);
• The visa vignette sticker in your passport;
• A Right to Study share code from the UKVI website along with your date of birth so we can verify your student visa online;
• If your vignette sticker was not stamped by Border Force when you arrived in the UK, you will also need to email us your boarding pass or airline ticket as evidence of the date that you travelled to the UK

What happens next

We will check your documents and reply to your e-mail to either confirm that you have completed Right to Study check or to advise you of additional information that is needed.

If you are a Student visa holder who is eligible to apply for a visa extension in the UK, you must upload evidence of the following as part of your Student Right to Study check :

• A copy of your passport personal data page;
• A copy of your UKVI decision letter for your current visa so we can check the expiry date of your current visa as evidence that you have submitted an in-time student visa application;
• A UKVI document which confirms your 'date of visa application', for example, a UKVI Document Checklist (.pdf) or UKVI payment receipt, which shows your online visa application date (or equivalent). We cannot accept IHS receipt as evidence of your visa application.

We will assess the evidence provided and confirm by email whether you are permitted to start studying.

You must pay for your new student visa application BEFORE you start your course. Please read the information on our website about how to extend your student visa before you apply.

Please note: If you currently hold a Graduate visa you cannot use it to start your course; you must obtain your new Student visa BEFORE you start your course.

Important: If your course requires ATAS clearance, you will not be permitted to start your course without ATAS clearance even if you can evidence the submission of your visa extension application.

You must upload a scan of the following when you complete your Student Right to study check 

• The biometric page of your passport (this is the page with your personal information and photo);
• An 'S' share code generated from Gov.UK View and Prove;
• Evidence of the date you entered the UK such as your e-ticket or boarding pass 

We will check your documents and notify you to either confirm that you have completed Right to Study check or to advise you of additional information that is needed.

If you obtained an ETA before entering the UK you must upload the following when you complete your Student Right to study check 

• The biometric page of your passport (this is the page with your personal information and photo);
• Your ETA confirmation from UKVI;
• Evidence of your arrival in the UK (e.g. boarding pass or flight ticket)

What happens next

We will check your documents and notify you to either confirm that you have completed Right to Study check or to advise you of additional information that is needed.
