Key information

We understand that it can be costly getting all of the materials that you need for your studies. It’s important that you have access to a laptop or Wi-Fi. If you’re on a budget, there are various ways that the University may be able to help. We hope that the information below helps you to access everything that you need in order to get the most out of your course.

  • The University of Manchester Library is a great place to find your required texts among many other resources.
  • If the Library doesn’t have a copy of the book or resource you need, you can order it and they will get it for you.
  • Many courses now offer e-textbooks. This means you can download the required text at no cost. It is worth checking if your course offers this before purchasing a textbook. Different software and apps such as VitalSource Bookshelf can be used to download textbooks so you can view them offline.
  • Dell Technologies are offering up to 20% off laptops and PCs for students.
  • If you are struggling to pay for your laptop or WiFi you can apply for the Cost of Living Support Fund.
