What if My Visa Application is Refused?

Your application will be refused if it does not meet the necessary requirements set out in the Immigration Rules, for example, if you do not provide evidence of adequate funds, or there was more than 28 days between the end of your most recent immigration permission and the start date of the new course you were applying for.

If you receive an Student visa refusal then you must e-mail the following documents to the Student Immigration Team as soon as possible:

  • A copy of your Student visa application form.
  • A copy of all the documents that you sent with your application (but do not include any documents that you did not submit with your application, as this may confuse the advice you receive).
  • A copy of the pages in your passport that contain your personal details.
  • A copy of the refusal notice UKVI sent you.

The Student Immigration Team will assess your refusal and advise you accordingly. If the refusal is correct and justified then you may be able to reapply, normally from outside the UK. However, this will only be permitted once it has been confirmed that you can meet the requirements for a new application.

If the refusal has been made by UKVI  in error then it may be possible for you to challenge the decision through an administrative review. Applicants applying from within the UK who are refused have a maximum of 14 days to request an administraive review. If you submit an administrative review your application will be reconsidered by a different case worker and if the refusal was made in error then the decision should be over-turned and your visa will be granted.

If you wish to apply for an administrative review you need to read the information on the UKVI website and apply online. The fee is £80 which will be refunded to you if your administrative review is successful.
