Your Biometric Residence Permit

Temporary visa

Once your application has been processed and approved you will receive a temporary visa sticker (vignette) in your passport.

Please check that the details on this visa are correct. You will need to pay attention to the following:

  • The end and start dates of your visa
  • Your working rights
  • The University of Manchester licence number: Q3DK76WN4
  • Your name and details

If there are any errors it is advisable to have these amended before entering the UK.

Collecting your Biometric Residence Permit (BRP)

The temporary visa in your passport is valid for 30 days only from the date you wish to enter the UK. Once you enter the UK you will be required to collect your full visa, called a Biometric Residence Permit (identity card). You can find more information about this on the UKVI website.

Biometric Residence Permits will be distributed by the University of Manchester and will be available to pick up from the Student Services Centre.

In order to collect your BRP from the University of Manchester, you will need to enter an Alternative Collection Location (ACL) code as part of your visa application. Please note that the ACL code is only available to University of Manchester students applying for Tier 4 visa, and the family members accompanying them under this route.

The ACL code for the University of Manchester is 2HE372. You should enter this code into the Alternative Location field in the BRP Collection Page on Visa4UK

Ensure the address is as follows in your application:
University of Manchester
Student Services Centre
Oxford Road
Manchester
M13 9PL

You will be sent an email with your pick-up location when your BRP is ready for collection.

Check that your Biometric Residence Permit is Correct

Mistakes are sometimes made when BRPs are printed, so it's very important you check your BRP.

Possible errors may be:

  • it expires too soon. The end date of your Tier 4 student visa depends on the length of your course:
    • programme of study is 12 months or longer: you will be granted until the end of your programme plus four months.
    • programme of study is more than 6 months, but less than 12 months: you will be granted until the end of your programme plus two months.
    • The University of Manchester's sponsor license number is missing or incorrect. It should be Q3DK76WN4
    • the number of working hours are incorrect - for full details on the working rules go to our information on working during your studies
    • your personal details (for example incorrect spellings).

Contact us as soon as you notice an error on your visa. There is a limited period of time in which you can obtain a correction.
