How and when to apply

How to apply

You apply for Student Finance online via the relevant funding provider for your country:

Student Finance England

Student Finance Northern Ireland

Student Finance Wales

Student Awards Agency Scotland

These companies are separate from the University, therefore if you need advice on your application or what evidence to provide you should contact the organisation directly; the University are limited on how much they can advise on the application process.

When completing your application it is very important that you and any financial sponsors (e.g. parents, guardians or partners) give the necessary consent for your household income data to be shared with the University. This will enable us to consider your eligibility for means tested scholarships and bursaries.

If you are applying as an independent student please see this useful article about applying for Student Finance in addition to information produced by the University's Money Advice Service

When to apply

If you are a new student you do not need to have a confirmed place on a course before you submit an application for Student Finance. You should apply as early as possible to ensure your funding is in place for the start of semester. Applications usually open at the end of January/beginning of February and the deadline for submitting your application is at the end of May (you can still apply after this deadline but it is not guaranteed that the funding will be in place for the start of semester).

If you are a continuing student you need to reapply for your student loans every academic year.
