Debt

This document outlines how to seek help if you have a debt to the University and provides some useful tips and advice if you owe money to external creditors.

Key Information

  • The University is not debt licenced and therefore is not permitted to give specialist debt advice. We recommend that you contact a debt advice service for help and click on the yellow box to the right for details of some free and reputable organisations.
  • There are two types of debt, priority and non-priority. Priority debts must always be paid first as there can be serious consequences if they are not paid.
  • Advice regarding Payday Loans can be found in our Scams and Risks factsheet.
  • If your debt is to the University, you should call credit control on 0161 275 8130 or email self.funding@manchester.ac.uk to arrange repayment.
