Asylum Seekers/Refugees/Humanitarian Protection

This document covers the financial support available to students who are seeking Asylum - including the University's Tuition Fee Concession and explains why eligibility for Student Finance may be restricted and what other funding options are available.

It also covers support options for students who have been granted Humanitarian Protection or Discretionary Leave and what happens if your permission to remain in the UK is due to expire.

Key Information

  • The University offers a tuition fee concession to asylum seekers applying for certain full time non-clinical UG and PG courses.

  • Asylum seekers do not fulfil the ‘settled status’ criteria required by Student Finance in order to qualify for Student Support.

  • Students who have lived in the UK for a substantial period of their life or are awarded Refugee/Humanitarian Protection status after the course starts, may be eligible for certain funding.
